Crash Box Prototype Finished

31 Jul

Hi all,

It has been a long time coming but the camera crash box that I started work on this winter is ready for testing. The purpose of this box is to provide splinter and blast protection for cinema cameras in harsh environments.   The box is made of 1/8th inch steel plate and accepts various thicknesses of protective glass, laminate or lexan using a quick change system. Unlike some crash boxes which are highly protective but are not user friendly, the prototype is designed for easy adjustment and use in the field, without tools. Another key feature is the positive pressure system which blows filtered air through the housing, helping cool the camera and mitigate dust working its way inside. Currently the box is patent pending, there will be some small modifications before it is in full production.
